THE parish council which covers Easington, Kilnsea, Out Newton and Spurn is vehemently opposed to the visitor centre - not least because it would inevitably attract a huge increase in people and their cars.
Says parish clerk Alison Whelan: "The residential amenities of properties nearest to the proposed centre would be adversely affected by noise and disturbance arising from the noise of car doors, car radios and vehicle engines.
"The proposed visitor car park is for 77 cars, but it is apparent that Yorkshire Wildlife Trust have grossly underestimated the requirement based on the car occupancy of three visitors per car.
"When using its own visitor/car formula for August, YWT predict 11,200 visitors, which means that they will expect 3,733 cars to visit during the month.
"This equates to a parking requirement of 120.43 parking places per day yet the car park will have just 77 places available, leaving a daily shortfall of 43 car parking places and a monthly
shortfall of 1,346 car parking places.
"This has already been highlighted by the East Riding Council highways department who have recognised that the surplus of cars may have a profound and dramatic impact on the local environment."
According to the parish clerk, the parish council - and residents - are also concerned about other issues, including loss of wildlife habitat, flood risk and adverse visual impact on the heritage coast.
She further regrets that the YWT's lack of collaboration with the community, particularly in respect of flood risk.
